Does adding porta potties trigger a Grand Prairie permit?
Often, yes. Grand Prairie requires a special event permit for events of 75 or more people that include items such as temporary structures, and the city lists portable toilets as a temporary structure. Alcohol, food sales, a 400-square-foot tent or amplified sound also count. Apply at least 30 days ahead.
Block parties that close a street or right-of-way need a permit no matter how many people come. The city says review usually takes 7 to 14 business days after you submit.
Read the City of Grand Prairie special event permit page and the city's permit-ready checklist. This is not legal advice; the city decides.
What goes in the sanitation plan the city asks for?
Grand Prairie's application asks for a sanitation and trash pick-up plan. A clear plan lists the number of toilets, accessible units and hand wash stations, where each cluster sits, and when units get serviced. For a 400-guest, 6-hour event with beer, our method gives 16 units and 4 hand wash stations.
We can send you a written unit list to attach to your application. Here is how the 400-guest count works:
| Step | Rule | Units |
|---|---|---|
| Base | 400 ÷ 50 | 8 |
| Over 4 hours | 1 per 100 guests | +4 |
| Alcohol | 1 per 100 guests | +4 |
| Accessible | 5% per cluster, at least 1 | 1+ of the 16 |
| Hand wash | 1 per 4 toilets | 4 stations |
Trash pickup is your part of the plan; we handle restrooms. See our event planning guide for layout tips.

Delivery from east Plano to Grand Prairie: what to expect
Grand Prairie is about 35 to 45 miles from our yard at 6000 Split Trail Rd in east Plano, around 45 to 65 minutes each way. Drivers take the President George Bush Turnpike to SH-161 south. Same-day delivery is less likely this far out, so book at least 1 business day ahead.
The driver calls 30 to 60 minutes before arriving. We can't guarantee an exact time, so weekend units drop Friday or Thursday and return Monday, at no extra cost.
- Book weekend events by Wednesday.
- Big orders: confirm early so we can send enough trucks.
- South-side addresses near the lake take the longest; tell us your cross streets.

For a Joe Pool Lake park gathering, ask the park office about outside restrooms before you book. Our driver can roll a unit only about 15 feet from where the truck parks, on firm and level ground. Shoreline sand and slopes don't work, so plan the units near a parking area or paved pad.
Lynn Creek Park and Loyd Park both sit on Joe Pool Lake, and each has its own rules for pavilion rentals. Ask what the park allows for delivery times and overnight placement.
- Ask for a free hasp and padlock if units stay overnight.
- Add a hand wash station when food is served.
- Multi-day camps or tournaments can add mid-event service.
Warehouses and shops in the Great Southwest Industrial District
Grand Prairie's Great Southwest Industrial District has many warehouses, shops and distribution sites. A build-out crew of up to 20 workers needs at least 1 toilet under OSHA Table D-1, and 1 seat plus 1 urinal per 40 workers above that. Rentals of 28 days include weekly pump-out and restocking.

Daily plant work follows 29 CFR 1910.141; construction follows 29 CFR 1926.51. For shutdowns and large sites, see our units for plants and warehouses, including towable units.
Long rentals bill every 28 days. Pickup is not automatic, so call or text when the job ends.
Mira Lagos and Grand Peninsula: do HOA rules matter?
Yes. Lake-area subdivisions such as Mira Lagos and Grand Peninsula have HOA rules on items visible from the street. Ask how many days a unit may stay and where. A standard unit is 43.5 inches wide, so a backyard drop needs a gate at least 48 inches wide. Otherwise we use the driveway.
- Mark the spot with a cone, flag or ribbon.
- You don't need to be home if the gate is open or we have the code.
- Ground must be firm and level. After rain we set units on the driveway or gravel, not the lawn.
